Mewġa

90 x 90 cm, Mixed media and gold leaf on cotton canvas, 2024

The crystal blue waters surrounding the small island of Comino, Malta, are a hallmark of Malta’s beauty and Mediterranean flair. As tourism in the area continues to increase year by year, the marine ecosystem has started to falter, largely owing to overcrowding and ever-increasing amounts of waste and pollution. A call for better conservation of Malta’s marine biology is required. This wave of change is not optional, but necessary. ‘Mewġa’ in part represents the ripples of change required for this change in mindset to take place.
