Ghar Lapsi

70 x 50 cm, Mixed media and gold leaf on cotton canvas, 2024

In ‘Ghar Lapsi’, Cassar sought to portray the vivid colours hiding beneath the water’s surface. She further incorporated morphed elements of mankind’s detritus; namely mesmerising shards of sea glass which she came across whilst navigating Għar Lapsi’s rocky shore. Indeed, Cassar ponders the natural processes which led to its creation. Tumbling waves, eroding and abrasive elements transforming a mere piece of litter into a vibrant pieces of sea glass. The sea perseveres. Nature in its rawest and purest form, turns waste into beauty.
